Everyone has preconceptions about each day of the week. Sunday carries a very relaxed feeling while Monday is more of the stressful side. Friday, however, always bears a sense of letting loose — and We the Kings was able to capture that same vibe in its new single, “Friday is Forever,” released April 12.
The group changed things up a bit without losing the same style that broke them into the scene. We the Kings could not have picked a better time to give fans a taste of what is expected on its forthcoming album. With so much attention on Rebecca Black’s “Friday” video — which We the Kings parodied — and summer just around the corner, this feel-good tune is all about living and loving in the moment.
It has just about every element that makes We the Kings successful: catchy melodies, upbeat music and sing-a-long lyrics. Accompanying an opening acoustic guitar riff, front man Travis Clark’s vocals smoothly sing about a girl he digs. But the song shies away from the energetic, fast-paced tempo found on the band’s self-titled album, bringing instead a more relaxed feeling.
The chorus’s lyrics are bound to get stuck in your head. It features drum fills the band has never peppered in before and lyrics that are the perfect windows-down soundtrack. If this is any indication of what is to come when the third album drops in July, We the Kings’s fans will be very pleased.
