The A Day to Remember kids are at it again. They down-tuned their guitars and put together a big album — not just big in sales and popularity, but big on hooks and breakdowns. Many critics did not think the band would be able to top its 2009 album “Homesick,” the album that brought ADTR to new levels, but the band proved them all wrong with this collection of songs showcasing the group’s mature side.

“What Separates Me from You” has an entire concept to it, and that concept is supremacy of self. Frontman Jeremy McKinnon’s lyrics range from stories of girlfriends who have bailed to bands that have pissed him off, his old washed-up town and how to overcome any of the dreadful situations life throws at him. McKinnon and company bring you the traditional heavy side that everyone would expect, but they also bring you their most melodic side that no one has seen before. The usual mosh-pit-loving hardcore fans will enjoy the album just as much as the past three, but fans of pop music may find something here to get their heart racing as well.

There isn’t a sure standout track like “Homesick’s” “The Downfall of Us All,” but these 10 tracks are more evenly stacked. “All Signs Point to Lauderdale,” “It’s Complicated,” “All I Want,” “Better Off This Way,” “Out of Time” and “If I Leave” can all be singles and complement each other well. Whether a crafty pop-punk anthem or a sonic beat down, ADTR can do it and do it well.
